“Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate customers will have the option to downgrade to Windows XP Professional from PCs that ship within 18 months following the general availability of Windows 7 or until the release of a Windows 7 service pack, whichever is sooner, and if a service pack is developed,” a company spokeswoman said in an e-mail.

Meru first with wireless LAN management app for iPhone
Meru, a company that develops and markets wireless LAN infrastructure solutions, has introduced the E(z)RF OnTheGo application specifically designed for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch.
Aimed at business-to-business clients, the application is billed as the first of it’s kind across the industry, built around the recently updated E(z)RF Network Manager 2.0 software tool.
Network administrators for the first time can work untethered from their desktop consoles, gaining the ability to view customised dashboards, receive high-priority alerts from an iPhone.
As a browser-based application, E(z)RF OnTheGo does not require users to download any software onto an iPhone.
Hospitality Wireless Special
From what we hear from our Hospitality clients guest occupancy has been down during the winter. Business is starting to pick up a bit this spring and with summer approaching it is a good time to look at amenities and upgrade long overdue services.
Hotel guests are now pounding the hotel wireless networks with their iPhones, Netbooks, laptops and connecting to traffic intense sites like Pandora, YouTube, Hulu and maybe connecting back to their office for email and work. Nowadays almost no vacation lacks a few business emails.
A wireless network with spotty coverage, poor design, downtime, lack of features will drive guests away.
I have been told by a few clients that guests will not even check in if there isn’t sufficient wireless at the hotel.
SF WiFi resolves wireless network issues. Our Hotel General Managers are happy and the guests don’t complain to the front desk!! Well maybe guests still complain about the continental breakfast – but we can’t support that.

Solar Powered Bus Shelter Unveiled in San Francisco – With WiFi !!
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom recently unveiled the first of 1,100 solar powered bus shelters that will be installed throughout the city between now and 2013. Crowned with a rolling red crest of photovoltaic panels, the shelters will use the sun’s rays to power their intercom, LED lighting, and even wireless routers that will help blanket the city with WiFi goodness. Designed by Lundberg Design and contracted through Clear Channel, the new shelters signal a bright future for solar technology in the Bay Area.
The roof is constructed from an innovative 40% post-industrial recycled polycarbonate material embedded with thin-film photovoltaic cells. The panel powers the NextMuni display that tells people when their bus is coming, a Push-To-Talk system so blind people can hear the NextMuni information, environmentally friendly light bulbs, and free Wi-Fi. The old florescent lights in the current shelters use 336 watts; the new LED panels use only 74 watts.
“Transit shelters that use photovoltaics, LEDS, and WiFi are going to be standard in the future and Im proud that San Francisco is once again acting like the pace car for other cities by trying and implementing these technologies”, said the mayor last week. Wireless will roll out in another phase.

Browse the web? Must be Monday
Shaw Web Designs informed me of something interesting. While monitoring their clients web analytics they noticed a trend. Visitor traffic dropped on the weekends and increased on Monday’s at many of their client’s web sites.
Web Traffic increases on Monday? Hmm is that telling us people tend to surf more at work? I think so.
Perhaps it is time to enforce Internet policies at the office. Install a Barracuda web content filter. SF WiFi is a Barracuda reseller – blatant plug.
